Brett Cannon added the comment: OK, but how would you propose to fix broken bytecodes in a bugfix be fixed if you can't bump the magic number? And why aren't you regenerating the bytecode when updating Python or shipping the bytecode with the install (and I bet the answer is "RPM doesn't support it" and "it goes against packaging guidelines to include auto-generated files", but I thought I would ask :) .
