STINNER Victor added the comment: Ok, it's an optimization, not a performance regression of Python 3.6. In this case, I suggest to first push the change to Python 3.7, and after 3.6.0 release, backport to 3.6 (if you want to), and maybe even 3.5 if it makes sense (and if you want).
