Terry J. Reedy added the comment: Being able to toggle syntax color on for non-py files would satisfy request #22038. Note that toggle off does not de-colorize, but toggle on colorizes existing code. However, in text file, it selects entire file (^a plus last blank line). Must be pre-existing tk binding. Pycharm uses to comment a line.
