Martin Panter added the comment: Code samples in the documentation should also be fixed, like at <https://docs.python.org/3.6/library/re.html#re.split>. I think you can run “make -C Doc doctest” or something similar, which may help find some of these.
Also, playing with your current patch, it seems to affect the “unicode-escape” codec.
