Reedy added the comment: Ionel, 8 core developers (an unusually large number for a tracker issue) have posted here and the closest thing to a consensus is that this is an enhancement request. Beyond that, opinions are scattered. No one is going to commit a patch in this circumstance. So Ethan is right about writing a PEP. See PEP1 for guidelines.
