Stefan Krah added the comment: #14757 has an implementation of inline caching, which at least seemed to slow down some use cases. Then again, whenever someone posts a new speedup suggestion, it seems to slow down things I'm working on. At least Case van Horsen independently verified the phenomenon in this issue. :)
