Alex Grönholm added the comment: Why do you want to keep threads separate from asyncio? What's the downside here? The use of helper functions is justifiable when integrating a third party framework or similar with asyncio, but standard library components should just integrate well with each other. Requiring boilerplate wrappers for such use seems unreasonable to me.
