Ned Deily added the comment: OS X builds are posix builds so, by default, they dynamically link with the system-supplied zlib. The particular version varies by release: the most recent (10.9) supplies zlib 1.2.5. So updating the zlib in Modules should have no effect on OS X. Does that answer your question?
