Geoffrey Spear added the comment: Reproduced this on a Cr-48 Chromebook running ChrUbuntu 3.4.0 in Python 3.3.4 and 3.4.0RC1. The kernel does appear to have been compiled with CONFIG_DNOTIFY=y, so that's not a complete solution.
