Terry J. Reedy added the comment: I believe this is my suggestion 2) in msg206715 of #19995, and I think it better than 3) (and 1) alone). Thanks for moving this forward. I believe what Guido said is that indexes (integers in the broad sense) are (or should be) a subset of things convertible to ints. I concur completely.
