Tim Peters added the comment: New patch (threadstate_join_4.patch) refactors so that is_alive() returns True until the tstate is cleared. This simplifies join() a lot (it doesn't have to roll its own timeout implementation anymore), but complicates is_alive().
Caution: I don't know anything about the dummy threading implementation.
