If a Rational data type would be included in the stdlib, my recommendation is that first that PEP would be reopened and pushed until get accepted. Also, note the kind of questions Mark is asking here: the analysis and answer of those questions belongs to a PEP, not to a patch. We risk to not be very rational (1/2 wink) in these decisions.
