Martin v. Löwis added the comment: If possible, I would like to see the C library phased out of Python on Windows, for file I/O. In this case, it would mean that ReadConsoleW is used directly for character input. Notice that _cgetws does not take a file handle as a parameter, but implicitly uses _coninpfh.
