Well, suffice to say that I wasn't convinced at all. There are multiple use cases for subtests in the Python test suite, but I can't think of any for your proposed API separation. That's why I find it uninteresting. I'm making this proposal to solve a concrete issue, not in the interest of minimalism. "Building block" was to be understood in that sense.
