Kristján Valur Jónsson added the comment: Oh, I forgot to mention: Once one gets into the domain of allowing such niceties as writer priority, surely you can agree that the implementation of both locking modes belongs in the same class instance. That is just plain good coding practice, allowing for class invariants, state assertions and such things. Two class instances coupled by a bunch of common variables is IMHO neither good style nor practice.
