Brett Cannon added the comment: Nick's current patch is fine, although I would add back in invalidate_caches() into MetaPathFinder and PathEntryFinder where they do nothing but return NotImplemented as a form of no-op. I know you have a python-ideas discussion going about optional abstractmethod, but until that's settled I would rather have something there to document in code what is supported as part of the API.
