Ronald Oussoren added the comment: I have VMs with earlier versions of OSX (at least 10.5 and 10.6). I cannot run those right now because they use enough resources to interfere with other activities. I'll try to test later this week.
BTW. I'd prefer to make waitid available on OSX unless it is totally non-functional. I'm not convinced that the Google problem is a good enough reason to avoid exposing the function.
