Éric Araujo <mer...@netwok.org> added the comment: Hm, this change was done on purpose, because of the problems caused by stale object files (as explained on the other bug report), so it cannot just be reverted. distutils is also under a feature freeze, only clear bugs warrant a change, so a performance improvement request like this must target distutils2, if we could find a good way to do it.
