Ezio Melotti <ezio.melo...@gmail.com> added the comment: I think it's internal. While it's not explicitly mentioned in the source, the method is not documented and I don't think people subclassed it. All that it does is changing the regex used to parse the data, and if someone needs to change this, it's probably easier to just change the regex. OTOH this method is called just in one place, so in theory it's possible to set self.cdata_elem there before the set_cdata_mode() call, but that might make the code more fragile.
