Nick's approach would not allow me to specify a custom (hand coded) name for each set of arguments, which is my normal use case. I also would not like the arguments auto-generated into the docstring unless that was optional, since I often have quite substantial argument tuples and it would just clutter the output to have them echoed in the docstring. In my use cases the custom name is more useful than seeing the actual parameters.
