It is difficult to find someone willing to run a buildbot as the root user, so while we will see about fixing the test suite to run as the root user, it may get broken again by and by unintentionally. Thanks for figuring out what was going wrong. I think there may already be an open bug for your last niggle, you might search the tracker to check.
