Yes,

eix -I libpng
[I] media-libs/libpng
     Available versions: (1.2) 1.2.14 ~1.2.14-r1 1.2.15 1.2.16
1.2.18~1.2.18-r1
     Installed versions: 1.2.18(1.2)(23:24:52 17/06/2007)(-doc)
     Homepage: http://www.libpng.org/
     Description: Portable Network Graphics library

I couldn't see a ./configure option for libpng. Oddly enough I just got
around the error. Initially I'd tried the cvs download, I hadn't need to
create a png till today. I've just now tried the portage tree version (I
hadn't realised it had since been added) which seems to be working. Still
don't know what caused the first error.

I think perhaps the most important problem is that we are trying to
understand the fundamental workings of the universe via a language devised
for telling one another when the best fruit is.
