For what it's worth, this can be fixed for Mac as well. The newest
Logitech drivers allow you to assign any button press to just about
anything - the setting needed for normal middle mouse button behavior
is to set the Wheel Button to "Advanced Click" and configure "click
type" to click button number 3. Since doing this my Logitech kit (MX700
wheel mouse) works fine with Pymol among many other things.
Logitech control center is a free download - you should be able to
find it from Apple's downloads page here
