Route is pronounced 'root' in England as I discovered when I worked with the author of the Pylons book and he started talking about 'roots', which left me confused until I realized he meant 'routes" (the package).
So Pyramid has views and routes, and it also has a resource root but you can ignore that if you're not using traversal or authorization. The reason for the separation between routes and views is so that you can reorganize your URL structure without affecting the view code and vice-versa. This was a feature that existed in Rails, which Pylons adopted, and then Pyramid adopted it when Pyramid succeeded Pylons.
