It depends on whether they're doing it mainly to learn Pyramid (and don't mind that some of the documentation and convenience functions are unfinished), or whether they're doing it because they think they "should" upgrade their application now. The OP sounds like he mainly wants to learn Pyramid, and porting a familiar application allows you to experience the exact differences between Pylons and Pyramid, which will be a useful skill the future. it may also be easier to port a familiar application than to write a new one from scratch, if the application is not too large and complex. But if somebody is doing it because they think they "should" upgrade their applications now, no. Wait till Pyramid is released, or at least a beta.
