If you could post a test case I'd be happy to take a look. My experience is starting from a working example is useful, shameless self promotion I know but, the puppet module skeleton should run a set of unit tests out of the box: https://github.com/garethr/puppet-module-skeleton Even if you don't use the skeleton you should be able to get the tests running at least and then port to your own module.
