I've not seen that before. What versions of puppet/hiera/hiera-eyaml/hiera-eyaml-gpg are you using? Is there anything in the log on the puppetmaster? Can you raise an issue on the github project at https://github.com/sihil/hiera-eyaml-gpg with details on how you produced the error?
