You can use custom settings that will be put in /etc/mysq/conf.d/ and
will be included in you setup by overriding any setting in my.cnf. Here
is an example from our setup:


  mysql::server::config{ 'my-cool-settings':
    settings                              => {
      'mysqld'                            => {
        'max_connections'                 => '400', #the maximum number of open 
connections
        'max_connect_errors'              => '1000', # sane value because the 
default is 10 which is not enough at all!
        'character-set-server'            => 'utf8', #use utf8 by default
        'innodb_buffer_pool_size'         => $innodb_buffer_pool_size, #innodb 
buffer size
      }
    }
  }
