This is Windows, so I'd say: "It depends". I can do this: C:\Program Files (x86)\Puppet Labs\Puppet\bin>echo %SYSTEMROOT% C:\Windows C:\Program Files (x86)\Puppet Labs\Puppet\bin>echo %SYSTEMRoot% C:\Windows But, as seen, expanding %SYSTEMROOT% in %PATH% only seems to work when it's all uppercase... And I still hear people whining how complicated this Linux thing is... Bye...
