No, there is only one reason: force everybody on the project to use the indentation you prefer. Every editor and command line tool allows for personalized tab adjustments. Logic based on how editors worked in v7 unix isn't relevant now. Linux/FreeBSD/Solaris/etc have never had any problem supporting flexible spacing arrangements.
