I concur with the point of using Debian Stable or Ubuntu LTS for the centre of 
your puppet infrastructure. I've been creating and maintaining puppet 
infrastructure for Debian 6, Ubuntu 10.04, and CentOS 5/6 in parallel. My 
preferences for ease of puppetized management, platform stability, and lack of 
unpleasant surprises go roughly in that order too.
