Robin,

James and Ken have great suggestions, and I only want to add that if
IRC / Mailing lists / documentation / patches aren't "social" enough
for you, organizing any-sized meetups in your area are also a
phenomenal way to help Puppet out.

Lots of people are really interested to see and hear about how to
quickly get started with Puppet and "get stuff done."

While I wasn't an organizer, I got my start in the Puppet community on
the mailing list, IRC channel, and talking with people face to face at
conferences and linux user groups.

I've been happy with the results.
