I think it depends on the use case. I much prefer the git method. I'm trying to do it the classic way this week, but there is a lot of decisions to deploy an efficient puppetmaster which add complexity and unwanted software to some setups.
Git does ssh. Git is far faster. Finally, the source of changes, really is my puppet repo.
