So ... whilst not addressing your core issue I wanted to talk about my
favourite poor cousin, Mr Facter.  The reason Facter doesn't get a lot
of love is because it currently does pretty much what everyone wants.
It's not perfect - it'd be awesome for example to have non-Ruby facts
and values other than strings for example - but largely this isn't
killing anyone.  Whereas there are some other bugs and features in
Puppet that cause people real pain or gain them serious advantage.

We've pretty much laid out what we want Facter to be/do:

(which anyone is welcome to add/comment on/etc).

Now we need to find resources to do it in line with the other priorities
on our plate.

It's certainly not related to the size of the code base ... which is tiny.
