I have submitted my adventures with getting puppet to work with augeas on Puppet Wiki http://reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/PuppetSource . I hope it will be of use to someone like me. It took me one week to figure out what I wrote!...
Unfortunately I can't fully validate the steps, because it seems there are some problems with gem servers, and I can't get any gems from the net.
