So... if I do! experience issues, I did what was suggested by backing up
my Avid folder. Do I just paste that backup back over the top of the
current Avid folder within the finder, obviously, while PT isn't running?
In other words more simply put, how do I then restore that preferences
backup?

your Pro Tools Preferences. Just in case, you might want to either duplicate or
grab a copy from a backup. It's in your User Library/Preferences/Avid folder.
