Get your transport to a few seconds before where you want the fade to begin. Press Command Num Pad 4 to bring up the Automation dialog. Make sure automation isn't bypassed. Make sure Volume is selected for automation. Close the dialog with the same shortcut. Make sure your master track's automation mode is set to Write. Focus and interact with the master track's volume fader. Engage the transport. Press Vo Down Arrow to make the fade. Note that you'll be moving in half a decibel increments so you'll be pressing the down arrow quite a lot. When you're done, press the Space Bar. It's quite a bit easier with a control surface.
