There are things known as markers but they are relative to the timeline rather
than the audio file. Some people choose to use them and they can be helpful in
a way. If you're editing audio and you're dealing with an essentially
continuous file, I'd recommend splitting the audio (sometimes referred to as
"separating" the audio into clips). Command E separates the clip at the
insertion point. Pressing Tab and Option Tab moves the insertion cursor to the
next or previous clip boundary. Adding Shift will make a selection. So, for
example, a typical thing to do would be to go to bar 8, press Command E to
separate the clip, go to bar 12 then press Option Shift Tab to select back to
the previous clip boundary which would be at bar 8. Technically, a shorter
workflow would be to simply go to bar 8, select 4 bars and just press the
delete key. As you can imagine, it all depends on several factors, whether you
know the exat bar numbers, etc. Using markers is a little different in the
sense that, instead of splitting the audio, you're creating a memory location
that references a point on the timeline. When you've moved to the second
location, you then add Shift when entering the marker number to which you wish
to select. For example, in the case of bar 8 to bar 12, assuming you have no
other markers in the session, at bar 8, press the Enter key on the num pad and
Memory Location 1 will be created. Press the Enter key to dismiss the dialog.
Go to bar 12 then, while holding down the Shift key, recall Memory Location 1
by pressing decimal 1 decimal on the num pad. You will have selected from bar
12 back to bar 8.
