The sessions themselves will open but it's likely that all of the plug-ins (or
most) will be outdated and there's no way to substitute one for another. For
example, eQ II hasn't been around since Pro Tools version 7. If you open a
session with the old EQ II instantiated on a track, you'll be alerted that
those plug-ins are not available and you'll have to manually change those
plug-ins for the eQ III plug-in. Same goes for the old Compressor plug-in that
was replaced by the Dyn III compressor, etc. So, while it's certainly possible
to open old sessions, unless they were properly archived, the content will not
necessarily sound the same. Without an archived session, one would have various
degrees of success resurrecting old session files. Just something to keep in
mind.
