Killing RPM is correct when normal interruption doesn't work. Then run:
rm -f /var/lib/rpm/__*
Then run:
rpm --rebuilddb
You may need to repeat this everytime RPM hangs again.
This problem has been around since the 8.0 release. Does anyone know if this has been fixed in Phoebe (and hopefully 8.1 when it is released)?
