Ext3 File System Check

If my memory serves me, and that's becoming more questionable as time 
takes it's toll, after unmounting a device a file system check of ext3 
can be run with the following command, am i right?

e2fsck -j /dev/xxxx

Something tells me that I might be wrong about the option.
