grub and thanks

Hello Everyone,

First, thank you everyone for the help with recording from a mic and playing back.

We have a prob with grub on my son's computer. He was recompiling a kernel (he's done this tons of times before) and thought to back up his /boot dir. After some major messing around (I guess) he copied the backed up boot back to /boot... Then tried to reboot.

The box just hangs at after polling the cds and just shows the initial word 'GRUB'

Before he begins a major re-install, is there a quick fix? I've looked at the grub reference at gnu.org and maybe grub-install /boot could do it after booting linux rescue mode?
