Are you sure you don't have some cron job running or something that is cranking out NEW messages? What are the nature of the messages? ie Is is a regular mail message that you (someone) is trying to send to someone, and fails? Or more like the status of something that ran/failed. Just by default, you can plan on root to get a status report mailed to it once or twice a day. And if you have other things setup, more. And lots of process that don't a tty associated with it, will get the output mailed to the user or root. cron is a good example of this. More details. > i've checked the /var/spool/mqueue, and /var/spool/clientmqueue. these are > both empty... And if these are empty, then more than likely it's not being resent, but new mail each time. Any clues in /var/mail/maillog* ? > i've stopped/restarted sendmail a number of times..... Probably won't help.
