The version of MySql that comes with RedHat 8.0 has a bug which causes
mysqld to restart
if a database request is received from a remote computer that is not listed
in /etc/hosts. The quickfix is to put
entries into the server's /etc/hosts file for all computers that need to
connect to MySql. The permanent fix is to install
the latest MySQL 3.23.54a release from http://www.mysql.com but the
installation
is not trivial. One notable difference is that RedHat calls the daemon
"mysqld" and the MySql guys just call it "mysql"
so you need to make appropriate changes.
