When I setup cups, I just tell it to print to the default printer, and it
prints to the cups printer.
I did not have to do any configuration of the individual applications after
I got cups to work.
Try and print something to the default printer and see if it comes out on
the cups printer.

After cups was setup I did not need to configure the individual
applications.
