Could it be a typo in the directory you're trying to put it in? That is, "I entered >/usr/lib/mozilla-1.0.1/plugins/ at the prompt >> and got back the following output..." but you said "I've checked the Nautilus >File Manager and the >> directory /usr/lib/mozilla-1.0.1/plugin/ exists >alright." i.e. plugins vs plugin.
