"rpm -e ipchains" might be a good start. Then turn to iptables and do not
look back. If you want to leave ipchains on your system for whatever silly
reason you may have (trust me, it is silly even if it doesn't seem that way)
then "service ipchains stop" should turn the trick. Leave it stopped. Do not
look back. Look to the resources mentioned on my prior rock carving.
(This is a convert from iphains speaking. The ipchains implementation just
doesn't work at all well on 2.4 kernels. It is an emulation that uses the
iptables facilities. It takes a modicum of learning. But the learning is
well worthwhile.)
