This is my first time posting to the list, so if by chance this is not
where I should be posting this question, please point me in the right
direction.

I have upgraded three machines from RedHat 7.1 to 8.0 in the last week,
and in all three cases, LILO persists, even though I instruct the
installer to upgrade the bootloader. Normally, I would just post that to
bugzilla or whatever, but even when I manually install GRUB, it doesn't
work.

I ran

grub-install /dev/hda

and manually created /boot/grub/grub.conf, then rebooted. All that appears
is:

GRUB Read Error

I can boot into rescue mode and run /sbin/lilo, thus allowing me to get
the system up and running, but I'd prefer to use GRUB. This happens on all
three machines.

Has anyone else run into a similar problem? Do I need to do something to
completely remove Lilo from the system before installing Grub? Any help is
appreciated.

TIA
