Funny you should mention this... I used ftp and rsync (ssh) this weekend to copy my production web server to a backup and experienced the same issue. After sending about 500meg across the network, my production server locked. The console had nothing on it and the only recourse was the reset switch. This happened four times. I've looked through the logs, but have not found any references to point me to a solution.
