I upgraded to the latest kernel 2.4.18-18.8.0 and used it for a day. Recently, I upgraded kde to 3.0.5 and was in the process of creating mozilla 1.2 rpm's when x crashed. It would not restart, so I rebooted. On startup, a large number of error messages about modules not being available appeared. Among these was the fs modules for vfat, so fstab could not be executed.
I restarted to the former kernel, then removed the kernel 2.4.18-18.8.0 by rpm -e. I tried to install it again (rpm -ivh kernel-2*i686.rpm) and it won't install: [root /downloads/8kernel]$ rpm -ivh kernel-2*i686.rpm Preparing... ######################## [100%] 1:kernel ######################## [100%] error: unpacking of archive failed: cpio: lstat failed - Input/output error I am able to run ok on the older kernel version ... is there some problem with the new, or did I do something to crash it?
